The Best Time to Visit Morro Bay

Morro Bay runs cool and often foggy through the summer. The clearest, warmest weather arrives in early autumn, after the crowds have gone.

The coastal fog that defines a Central Coast summer is a genuine planning consideration. June and July mornings are frequently grey and can stay that way past midday — the local shorthand is June Gloom. It burns off inland long before it clears on the water.

September and October are the best months on the coast: the fog eases, the air is warmest, the water is at its calmest, and the summer visitors have gone. If you have flexibility, come then.

Winter is cool, green and quiet, with the biggest swells, the best birding and grey whales passing offshore. Spring is windier than people expect — the afternoon wind through spring is a real factor for paddling and anything on the water.
