Dog-Friendly Morro Bay

Morro Bay is a straightforward town to visit with a dog — the beaches are long, the waterfront is walkable and outdoor dining is common.

Morro Strand, running north from the Rock, is the main dog-walking beach and gives you miles of flat sand. Leash rules vary by beach and by season, and state park beaches are generally stricter than city ones, so check the signage where you park rather than assuming.

The Embarcadero and the harborwalk are easy leashed walking with plenty to look at, and a good number of restaurants along the waterfront have outdoor terraces that will seat you with a dog.

Wildlife is the one thing to be careful about. Dogs must be kept well away from hauled-out seals and from shorebird nesting areas, both of which are protected and both of which are taken seriously here.
