Outlook
The eelgrass beds and otter rafts

Bayside Landing is not open yet. The project is approved and heading into construction — an opening date will be announced here once the build schedule is confirmed.

A quiet room set over the sheltered water where Morro Bay's sea otters raft up in the eelgrass — often close enough to watch without leaving the deck.

The eelgrass beds in this part of the bay are protected, shallow and calm, which is exactly why the otters use them. They gather in rafts to rest and groom, and on a still morning you can hear them before you see them.

The room is finished in soft sage and cedar with a bright green eave band matching the cottage outside. Glazing looks down into the shallows, and the private deck sits low enough over the water to make the whole thing feel like a hide.

Guests who want to see otters without a boat should book this room or plan an early morning on the public observation deck a few steps away.

Common questions

Are sea otters guaranteed from this room?

Nothing wild is guaranteed, but the eelgrass beds below this room are one of the most reliable rafting spots in the bay and sightings are common year-round, most often early morning and late afternoon.
